Singular Moments

"Somewhere east of that solo and a little bit west of the bridge,

was the singular kind of moment that you remember as long as you live"

Stephen Kellogg

As an artist I see myself as a visual storyteller. A singer/songwriter with a camera instead of a guitar. Creatively I have always lived "somewhere east of that solo", a wanderer waiting to stumble upon her next singular moment. The unexpected moments. The subtle moments. The hidden moments that so often go unnoticed. Moments that will never come again. These moments are how I tell stories. It doesn't matter what I'm shooting. It could be the soul of a city, the heartbeat of live music, nature, architecture, or a person's inner truth. I find moments in it all. And when I clock the shutter, these moments become my photographic song.

The directions to these moments can't be found on a map. They are the unexpected detours. The roads less traveled. The destination discovered just around the bend. And when I take that detour, when I travel down that gravel road, the magic of those singular moments always finds me. When I'm lucky, they find me in familiar places too. Right out in the open, waiting for me to recognize them. Because without me they may never be seen; the flower blooming among the weeds, the texture created by rusted metal and chipped paint, and the people living on the street, whose beauty still shines through.

My road trip to discovery has no end. There will always be unique moments to see, and new stories to tell. It's not the melody that drives me, but the harmonies that sing to my creative soul. After all, "in a world that's such a blur...the best things are designed to stand the test of time".
