Like his son, Mike Brown Sr. proudly attended Normandy High School. Here you see his Class of '97 Varsity Jacket,
with Mike Jr.'s graduation year on the back. Mike Sr. had the 2014 added after his son was killed so that the jacket would represent both of them, and their love for their high school. Mike Sr. has spent the majority of the last 11 years since his son was killed keeping his legacy alive, and helping other families, particularly fathers, learn to cope
with the tragic loss of a child.

Photos of Mike Brown Jr. sit on a bench outside of his alma mater, Normandy High School. Mike graduated from Normandy in 2014, just weeks before he was shot and killed by Darren Wilson, a white police officer in Ferguson, MO. His face, and some of these very photos, became instantly recognizable worldwide. The killing sparked conversations around the globe regarding the unjust treatment of African Americans by law enforcement, police
abuse of power, and excessive use of force.

Mike Brown Sr. looks at a striking photograph of his late son, Mike Jr.. The two were best friends, with Mike Jr. even serving as the best man when his father married his step mother Cal. Mike Sr. sees choosing his son for that honor
as something that speaks volumes to how deep their relationship was, how much he loved him, and the position he
played in his life. It is this deep emotional connection with his son that has resonated and moved so many
through Mike’s advocacy work.
